China City Tours - Lhasa

Potala Palace

Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region with an elevation of 3650 meters (12,000 feet) above the sea level, nicknamed Sunlight City, it is the highest city in the world. This ancient sprawling city, settled 1,300 years ago, is the region's political, economic and cultural center as well as a sacred place of Tibetan Buddhism. A tour to the roof-of-the-world is a dream of many people. A typical tour of Lhasa takes 4 days (3 nights), which covers all the necessary sites in Lhasa: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, the flourishing Barkhor Street, the Norbulingka Park, Drepung Monastery and the Sera Monastery. But if your clients do want to stay a few more days or even as long as two weeks in this wonderful region, there are always a few add-ons to the nearby areas available.

If the above program is too short for your clients, here are several add-on tours:

Add-on Tours from Lhasa in Tibet:

3 days extension tour to Gyantse and Shigatse

Day +1:  Lhasa   /  Gyantse
From today on, you will enjoy a bit painstaking but worthy journey to the outside of Lhasa. Today's drive is from Lhasa to Gyantse (about 256km, 5.5-hour drive), along the way you will visit beautiful Yamdrok Lake - one of the three holy lakes of Tibet and then a Tibetan family. After arrival in Gyantse, you will tour Palcho Monastery with three Sects of Buddhism-Sakya, Gedan and Gelug living harmoniously under one roof.

Day +2:  Gyantse  /  Shigatse
After breakfast, drive from Gyantse to Shigatse (about 90km, 1.5-hour drive). In Shigatse, you will visit Tashilumpo Monastery which is the oldest and largest Gelugpa monastery in Tibet and then the free market.

Day +3:  Shigatse  /  Lhasa
One more long - drive day back to Lhasa (280km, about 6 hours driving), the drive is along the Yaluzangbu River when you can enjoy the beautiful view of the valley en route. After a rest in Lhasa, the farewell dinner will be arranged at the Typical Tibetan restaurant for you to enjoy the local food with Tibetan dances and songs.

Go further to the third pole of the earth: Mount Everest (Base Camp ) (3 more days are needed from Shygatse)
This is your lifetime trip! It is an adventure of both nature and your heart. You need to be very healthy to take this tour. After the Everest Base Camp, you may drive back to Lhasa and then go to other places in China, or drive overland to Zhangmu then exit to Nepal.

Day ++1: Shigatse - Shegar
Today drive from Shigatse to New Ting-ri (Shegar). Refresh here to get ready for an adventure to the Everest Base Camp (EBC).

Day ++2: Shegar - Base Camp
It's only about 100km from Shegar to Base Camp(5200m), but it takes about 4 hours since the road is very cracked and bumping. But the views are stupendous on a clear day, and feature a huge sweep of the Himalaya range including peaks over 8000, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, Gyachung and Cho Oyu. When you finally get to Base Camp, the first sight of the mighty Everest simply leaves you speechless. All the hardship you bear along the way makes sense at this while. Overnight in Rongphu Monastery guesthouse. (Remember, we can not guarantee that you can see the "real face" of Mount Everest because the weather of that area is always changing. You have to count on your luck! We wish you good luck!)

Day ++3: Base Camp-Tingri- Shygatse
Today is a long driving day. Drive from Rongbu Monastery to Tingri and have lunch there. Then drive from Tingri back to Shygatse (250km).

A full day tour to Macau

Day ++1: Shigatse - Shegar
Today drive from Shigatse to New Ting-ri (Shegar). Refresh here to get ready for an adventure to the Everest Base Camp (EBC).
