from the earthquake, through May 16th, over 1200 flights took off and landed in Chengdu’s Shuangliu Airport.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on May 17th announced that after recovery from the earthquake, through May 16th, over 1200 flights took off and landed in Chengdu's Shuangliu Airport. Altogether there over 63,000 passengers were dispersed and no passenger are currently detained in Chengdu's airport.

After the earthquake, the China's Civil Aeronautics Administration transferred many flights bound for the Shuangliu Airport to other airports in Sichuan so that disaster relief flights could use the airport.

As of the evening of May 16th, China's Civil Aeronautics Administration had already arranged over 40 flights to land at Chengdu's Shuangliu Airport and other peripheral airports. Besides the normal flights to Chengdu, there were 24 flights that flew to peripheral airports like Chongqing and Mianyang.

The Civil Aviation Bureau announced that to guarantee the smooth delivering of commodities and rescue workers to the disaster area in the shortest time, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport will give first priority to disaster relief air movement, and suggest all passengers adjust their plans to enter Chengdu from its Peripheral Airports.
