The first train to run after the earthquake, Chengdu's Railway Station
CFP,13th May -- On the afternoon of 12th May, an earthquake hit Sichuan Province, China. The railway stations took contingency measurements immediately and made sure that the transportation of the railways stayed running smoothly during the earthquake.
At 14:28, 12th May, A major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted Wenchuan County of Southwest China's Sichuan province. The quake was also felt as far away as Vietnam. After the quake hit the leading members of the Chengdu Government immediatly went to the dispatching station to make sure trains continued running. Crew members onboard all trains were ordered to work continuously to ensure that the trains continued to run smoothly and safely.
After the earthquake, Chengdu Railway Station took contingency measurements which are designed to handle landslide or track disruptions immediately. They ordered that all the trains on the way to Chengdu stop so that rails, bridges, and tunnels could be checked so that trains could continue running safely. As of midnight May 13th, all lines other than the Baocheng Line are running normally. It is estimated that on May 13th, all trains will be running smoothly.
The first train to run after the earthquake, train No.2639 (from Chengdu to Kunming) restarted at 23:15, approximately eight and a half hours late. Currently, Chengdu's Railway Station is making a great effort to organize all of the passengers, and train No. T248 (from Chengdu to Wuchang), train No. 1988 (from Chengdu to Nanchang) and train No. K145 (from Chengdu to Kunming) as well as a number of other trains are standing by for the orders to continue their run, once conditions of the rails, tunnels and bridges can be checked to ensure safety of the passengers.
