- Located in the subtropics, Huangshan City has a wet mild monsoon climate. Heaviest rainfall occurs from May to August; average annual temperature ranges from 15 C (59 F)-16 C (60.8 F). Most areas are free of severe winter cold. The comfortable weather offers good opportunities to travel throughout the year in Huangshan City and the nearby villages.
- Weather on Mt. Huangshan is marine-like. Temperatures are lower at higher altitudes. From April to June Mt. Huangshan is rainy, misty and cloudy. It is cool in summer while the average temperature of winter is above 0 C (32 F). The mountain's various weather results in mysteriously diversified sceneries throughout the four seasons of a year.
- Spring is a deal season for most tourists to visit Mt. Huangshan for mild temperature and clear weather. With warm humid air from southern parts, Mt. Huangshan steps into summer. Some places, however, such as Bright Summit Peak and Jade Screen Tower do not get a summer season in terms of temperature. After a summer rainstorm, Mt. Huangshan becomes a world of water and rainbows above a sea of clouds. This makes summer the best season for adventurers. In the fall, the average temperature is 12.9 C (55.22 F) in September and 11.7 C (53.06 F) in October. Many tourists recommend the winter landscapes of Mt. Huangshan as the most spectacular. Winter, the longest of the four seasons, is chilly however brings Mt. Huangshan heavenly like elegance.

- As the Mt. Huangshan climbs high, the temperature goes down. Although some hotels offer overcoat rentals, tourists are highly recommended to bring their own coats or heavy jackets even during a summer season. It is always wise to check the weather report a day before.
- During summer thunderstorm seasons, visitors are not allowed to hold umbrellas as the wind could catch them and cause fall-off of the mountain. Wear raincoats for safety reasons.
- The best locations to watch the sunrise on Mt. Huangshan are:
Dawn Pavilion, Refreshing Platform, Lion Peak, Rosy Clouds Peak, Bright Peak Summit, Jade Screen Peak, Lotus Blossom Peak and Heavenly Capital Peak.

Spring: 05:30 am to 06:00 am
Summer: 04:40 am to 05:10 am
Fall: 04:50 am to 05:20 am
Winter: 05:30 am to 06:00 am
- The best time to watch sunglow on Mt. Huangshan is before and after sunrise.
- The best time to appreciate the seas of clouds on Mt. Huangshan is on clear days after rainy or snowy weather from September to May. Tourists are recommended to change their viewing locations according to the heights of clouds.
- Huangshan International Tourism Festival is usually held in October or November each year. Tourists are appreciated to wear their folk customs to participate in the Opening Ceremony and other events and activities, such as exhibitions of handcrafts, paintings and calligraphies, and evening parties.
